A Belgian driver with a Belgian team, Kosmic Racing Department, Ean Eyckmans (Kosmic/Vortex) dominated on a track and in a climate of which he knows the subtleties well.
Already well placed in Qualifying with his 5th position, he took three victories in the Qualifying Heats of the European Junior Championship in Genk. The rain kept on playing hide and seek with an insistence that quickly became tiresome. There were countless spins throughout the day, as well as crashes, not to mention the constant uncertainty as to whether to use slick or rain tyres.
Freddie Slater (Kosmic/Vortex) did well in all conditions to take 2nd place provisionally ahead of poleman Akshay Bohra (KR/Iame). Luka Sammalisto (KR/Iame) managed to stay in the leading group ahead of Matheus Ferreira (KR/Iame) and Dion Gowda (Kosmic/Vortex). Maxens Verbrugge (Kosmic/Vortex) lost ground after a retirement, which was partially compensated by two good victories. He was followed by Enzo Deligny (Parolin/TM) in the top 20. Jules Caranta (KR/Iame) made significant progress in the turmoil, as did Augustin Bernier (KR/Iame).
Three Qualifying Heats, one for each driver, will be held on Sunday morning before the Final.
